Not Our First Pick for a Get-Away Car: Smart Car Leads Cops on High-Speed Chase

A driver in a Smart Car made a not-so-smart move when he led Houston police on a high speed chase. This toy … I mean car … reached a top speed of 92 MPH on the Interstate 10.

Bet this driver isn’t feeling so smart now — according to Jalopnik — he apparently drove back to his house and casually got out of his car.

Several officers arrested David Wheaton, the driver, on spot without incident.

We’re sure this is the most adventurous thing we’ve ever heard a Smart Car doing! And we just can’t get over the picture! It looks like Mama Car and Baby Car.

But hey, smart car owners everywhere must now be very proud…

We think Texas police must have shared a laugh at some point. How could you not?

Check out the chase below:

Smart Cars are hilarious to me. I saw a vintage one in London once that had only three wheels, one in front. I used to see it parked on a street on my way to the tube for school. I nicknamed it Stanley. Utterly hilarious. Anyway I’d hate having a car that only reaches 92 (shhhh, don’t tell anyone, I shouldn’t even be going that fast by accident ever).

The only thing about Smart Cars though that to me they seem like death machines. I mean they are awesome for parallel parking, and are ideal in cities probably (I don’t know what gas mileage they get though), BUT in this age of people’s obsession with Ford F-350s and huge SUVs, and the Smart Car having zero room at the back, you’re looking at certain death if you’re hit on the highway or at any speed above 40. At the very least a broken back and broken legs, if not a broken neck. You’re so low to the ground, the fender would come right through your window. I mean that thing would crush like an accordion, unless it’s made of the same steel they make Volvos out of. So in my opinion, not a “Smart” buy.

haha, we feel your pain, MM123 — being in a Smart Car can seem quite scary at times …
